| In the spring of 2003 a resident on Berecroft
suggested that it would make a big difference to the terrace that she
lived in if the gray cement skirt below the brick garages at each end of
the terrace were painted. The Residents Association thought
this to be a great idea so after discussions and seeking permission from
Ryeland Community Housing, it was decided that if any
residents were willing to do the actual work then not only would the
active members of the RA help but they would supply all the paint and
brushes needed to do all the garage areas on Berecroft. The
resident who had the original idea was given the task of choosing the
colour and picked a bright, uplifting shade of terracotta. It
was also decided that the ranch fencing surrounding the areas could do
with brightening up too. All the materials were bought and so the
task began. The turnout was brilliant, everyone worked together as
a team, sweeping, painting walls or fencing and someone even supplied
the teas and coffees. The sun shone and everyone enjoyed the
work but most of all everyone enjoyed the end result. The whole
area changed from dull and gray to a warm and bright looked after area.
Later that year on Make a difference day a team of very willing volunteers were brought in to help other residents continue the work on their garage areas elsewhere on Berecroft. A third of Berecroft garage areas have now been completed.
